A ceremony was held today in Edinburgh to mark the inauguration of the new premises of the Consulate General and the Italian Cultural Institute, attended by Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs Giorgio Silli.<\/p>\n
The opening of the new headquarters\u2014designed to meet the needs of Italy\u2019s growing community and the increasing demand for consular services\u2014is part of a broader strategy to enhance Italy\u2019s presence in the United Kingdom. This initiative began with the establishment of the Manchester Consulate in 2021 and continued in 2023 with the digitisation of consular archives in London, Manchester, and Edinburgh.<\/p>\n
The Italian community in the region is expanding, with over 27,000 AIRE-registered citizens in Scotland and Northern Ireland, who have successfully integrated into the local social and economic fabric. “Italy House” will serve as the heart of Italy\u2019s presence in Edinburgh, a city that is home to over 30% of Italian nationals residing in Scotland.<\/p>\n
“The inauguration of a new consular office is further proof of the Government\u2019s commitment to Italians living abroad.
