{"id":134308,"date":"2025-04-01T10:36:20","date_gmt":"2025-04-01T08:36:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.esteri.it\/sala_stampa\/archivionotizie\/\/2025\/04\/madrid-dietro-lopera-giulio-paolini-e-luca-bertolo\/"},"modified":"2025-04-01T11:11:23","modified_gmt":"2025-04-01T09:11:23","slug":"madrid-dietro-lopera-giulio-paolini-e-luca-bertolo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.esteri.it\/en\/sala_stampa\/archivionotizie\/diplomazia-culturale\/2025\/04\/madrid-dietro-lopera-giulio-paolini-e-luca-bertolo\/","title":{"rendered":"Madrid, \u201cDietro l\u2019opera\u201d: Giulio Paolini and Luca Bertolo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong>Italian Cultural Institute of Madrid<\/strong> presented the exhibition <strong>\u201cDietro l\u2019opera\u201d <\/strong>(Behind the Work), dedicated to Giulio <strong>Paolini<\/strong> (Genoa, 1940) and Luca <strong>Bertolo<\/strong> (Milan, 1968), one of the main artists of the new <strong>avant-garde<\/strong> of the second half of the 20th century, in dialogue with one of the most important Italian <strong>painters<\/strong> of today.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition, curated by Elena <strong>Volpato<\/strong>, Curator of the GAM in Turin, is produced by the <strong>Italian Cultural Institute of Madrid<\/strong>, under the aegis of the <strong>Italian Embassy in Spain<\/strong>, with the collaboration of the <strong>GAM<\/strong> &#8211; <em>Galleria Civica d&#8217;Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Torino<\/em> and the <strong><em>Fondazione Torino Musei<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The opening was attended by the acting Director of the Italian Cultural Institute, Susi <strong>Baldasseron<\/strong>i, as well as Teodora <strong>Danisi<\/strong>, <strong>Cultural Councillor of the Italian Embassy in Madrid;<\/strong> the curator Elena <strong>Volpato<\/strong> of the GAM of Turin; Angela <strong>Benotto<\/strong>, Director of External Relations and International Activities of the <em>Fondazione Torino Musei<\/em>; Bettina <strong>Della Casa<\/strong>, Director of the <em>Fondazione Giulio<\/em>; Anna <strong>Paolini <\/strong>and the artist Luca <strong>Bertolo<\/strong>. The public present, including artists, gallery owners and professionals, showed great interest and enthusiasm for the fascinating itinerary, which presented <strong>for the first time in Spain<\/strong> an exhibition by Giulio Paolini in dialogue with Luca Bertolo.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition, which can be visited <strong>until 10 May<\/strong>, presents <strong>seventeen works: installations, paintings and conceptual works<\/strong>, created between 1963 and 2024, which lead us to continuously questioning ourselves on the <strong>reflective nature of art<\/strong> and the poetic, conceptual and expressive <strong>space<\/strong> that lies \u201c<strong>behind the work\u201d<\/strong>, revealing its most elusive dimension.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition is divided into three parts that explore some of the aspects of contact between the two artists: the <strong>relationship between the two sides of the canvas<\/strong>, the <strong>ambiguous image status of the flag<\/strong> and the <strong>representation of absence<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition is accompanied by a <strong>catalogue<\/strong>, published by Allemandi, with texts by the artists and the curator.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Italian Cultural Institute of Madrid presented the exhibition \u201cDietro l\u2019opera\u201d (Behind the Work), dedicated to Giulio Paolini (Genoa, 1940) and Luca Bertolo (Milan, 1968), one of the main artists of the new avant-garde of the second half of the 20th century, in dialogue with one of the most important Italian painters of today.
