The under-secretary also underscored the role that Italy could play in facilitating and encouraging a dialogue in which, according to Giro, both government and opposition were aware that this was the only way to end the violence and manage what is also an economic crisis whose negative effects are being felt across the country\u2019s entire social fabric. Giro reported having met with many members of the Italian community to express Italy\u2019s commitment to and support for them.
