This exhibition project brings together <strong>archaeology, technological innovation, and international collaboration<\/strong> to explore the complex, millennia-old identity of one of Tuscany\u2019s most captivating cities.<\/p>\n<p>At the heart of the exhibition is the discovery of the <strong>Roman amphitheatre of Volterra,<\/strong> an extraordinary 1st-century AD monument, uncovered by chance in <strong>2015<\/strong> during hydrological remediation works. Unmentioned in any historical or literary sources, the amphitheatre \u2013 immediately dubbed \u201c<em>the amphitheatre that wasn\u2019t there<\/em>\u201d \u2013 is now the focus of an extensive project of <strong>research, conservation, and digital documentation<\/strong>, supported by the <strong>Italian Ministry of Culture<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Through a combination of <strong>original artefacts<\/strong> \u2013 including two busts of <strong>Augustus and Livia<\/strong>, on display in the United States for the first time \u2013 <strong>3D models<\/strong>, and <strong>digital reconstructions<\/strong>, the exhibition offers visitors the chance to explore Volterra from a new perspective, where past and future meet through the language of innovation.<\/p>\n<p>Under the auspices of the <strong>Consulate General of Italy in Los Angeles<\/strong> and the <strong>Embassy of Italy in Washington<\/strong>, the project is the result of collaboration between the <strong>Italian Cultural Institute<\/strong>, the <strong>Superintendency for the provinces of Pisa and Livorno<\/strong>, the <strong>Volterra-Detroit Foundation, Autodesk<\/strong> \u2013 a global leader in engineering and construction software \u2013 and <strong>Case Technologies<\/strong>, a company specialising in digital solutions for architecture.
