Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani met with Oman\u2019s Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi, who is in Rome in his capacity as mediator for the new round of high-level talks between the United States and Iran.<\/p>\n
The initial US-Iran talks on the nuclear programme took place in Muscat on 12 April, hosted at Minister al-Busaidi\u2019s residence. At the request of both parties, the second session of the talks is now being hosted in Italy.<\/p>\n
During the meeting, Minister Tajani welcomed Oman\u2019s mediation efforts, stating: \u201cItaly gives its full support to Oman\u2019s mediation between the US and Iran\u201d. Minister al-Busaidi expressed his deep appreciation for the Italian Government\u2019s willingness to facilitate dialogue between the parties in a calm and productive setting. \u201cIn the face of numerous political and security challenges in a highly volatile regional context, Italy stands ready to support any further initiative in favour of peace and international stability\u201d, said Tajani.<\/p>\n
The Italian side also expressed the hope that these talks will provide strong momentum to the negotiations between the US Administration and the Iranian Government in the pursuit of a diplomatic solution\u2014one that is essential for the stability of the entire Middle East.
