“Vice\u00a0Minister\u00a0of\u00a0Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation,\u00a0Emanuela\u00a0Del Re, spoke at the opening of the Assembly of Parties of the International Development Law Organization (IDLO),\u00a0held\u00a0in video conference, to reaffirm\u00a0Italy’s\u00a0political support to the Organization and the\u00a0focus on the characteristic issues of\u00a0its mandate, namely the promotion of sustainable development based on the rule of law and access to justice for all.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“As\u00a0Covid-19\u00a0sweeps across every corner\u00a0in\u00a0the world, the rule of law\u00a0has become\u00a0more essential than ever,\u00a0because\u00a0the effectiveness of\u00a0the\u00a0government measures to contain the\u00a0virus and\u00a0support the\u00a0subsequent\u00a0economic\u00a0recovery depends\u00a0on the ability of\u00a0all\u00a0public institutions to provide transparent, effective and accountable policies and actions.”\u00a0– the\u00a0Vice\u00a0Minister\u00a0started.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“In my previous\u00a0ten-year work experience in conflict areas, I was able to witness\u00a0first\u00a0hand how legal empowerment can help reduce inequality\u00a0by enabling poor, marginalised and vulnerable groups to\u00a0have\u00a0access\u00a0to\u00a0essential public services,\u00a0such as justice, health and education.” –\u00a0she continued – “In recent years we have worked together to\u00a0strengthen\u00a0the role and activities of\u00a0the\u00a0IDLO and now we see its growing relevance as an important component of the hub of international organisations in Rome.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In particular, the\u00a0Vice\u00a0Minister mentioned IDLO’s efforts to improve justice for women and girls, especially\u00a0against the backdrop\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0COVID-19\u00a0pandemic, by supporting access to justice to overcome ongoing restrictions on mobility and improve efficiency and transparency in the administration of justice in Countries such as Afghanistan, Kenya, Somalia and Tunisia.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
