The agreement was signed in the margins of the Matching Italy-Turkey economic forum organised by Network Globale to coincide with the State Visit to Italy by Turkish President Abdullah Gul. It envisages collaboration to develop geothermal energy in Turkey and identify the key features of the geothermal power stations to be developed by Turboden and operated by Yeni Basak. The latter currently holds 4 licences in Cannakale and Manisa provinces.

Turkey is the world’s 7th country in terms of geothermal potential, which is estimated to be around 31,500 thermal MW. Installed thermal power currently amounts to 1,660 MW, mainly for heating use: remote heating networks and greenhouses, for example, since the sources (over 4000 thermal MW) identified to date are mainly of low/medium total energy. About 600, however, are high temperature sources and therefore suitable for electricity production. At the end of 2012, Turkey’s installed geothermal electricity was no more than 162 MW, distributed among a number of sites, but the new sites coming online should bring the total to 500/600 MW.

(Source: Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor.)

More news, in Italian, from Estonia, Spain and Fiat-Chrysler.

An letter of intent was signed in Rome today by Turkey’s Yeni Basak Energy (a subsidiary of the US Sun Group) and Italy’s Turboden (Organic Rankine Cycle Turbo-generators), controlled by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
