Speaking on the occasion of the International Day Against Violence Against Women, Minister for Foreign Affairs Emma Bonino described Italy and the foreign ministry as being in the international forefront against violence against women spearheaded with \u201cgreat commitment\u201d by the UN, which has approved resolutions with which \u201cI am particularly pleased\u201d on \u201cchild and forced marriages\u201d and \u201con female genital mutilation\u201d.<\/P>

EU and UN commitments: anti-FGM resolution<\/STRONG><\/P>

The minister recalled the pledge within the context of the United Nations\u2019 Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and the EU\u2019s Istanbul Declaration of 2011 on domestic violence and femicide, along with Italy\u2019s guiding role in the campaign for the implementation of a resolution against female genital mutilation and to prevent sexual violence during conflicts. <\/P>

Diplomatic network support for “Ferite a morte” <\/STRONG><\/P>
