The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Edmondo Cirielli, participated today in a press conference to present the initiative \u201cMACORESI \u2013 MAternit\u00e0 COnsapevole REsponsabile e SIcura (Conscious, Responsible and Safe Maternity)\u201d, funded by Italian Cooperation with an allocation of EUR 2.1 million.<\/p>\n
The initiative will be implemented by the University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli, in partnership with CUAMM \u2013 Collegio Universitario Aspiranti Medici Missionari (Doctors with Africa), with the aim of enhancing access to quality maternal and reproductive health services in Tanzania, focusing on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of obstetric complications.<\/p>\n
Tanzania, also identified as one of the focus countries under the Mattei Plan, is an increasingly significant partner in Italian Cooperation, with an ongoing portfolio of initiatives exceeding EUR 40 million in grants and loans. These initiatives cover a wide range of areas, including health, vocational training in the tourism sector, and large-scale projects supporting the coffee supply chain in Africa, as part of the Mattei Plan and Global Gateway, with Tanzania being one of five pilot countries.<\/p>\n
\u201cCollaboration with universities and civil society has become a hallmark of Italian Cooperation, particularly in the health sector,\u201d the Deputy Minister stated. \u201cIn addition to the University of Vanvitelli, institutions such as the University of Padua and the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart are working with CUAMM to strengthen basic health services and maternal and child health in C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire and Burkina Faso. CUAMM, a long-standing partner of Italian Cooperation, also collaborates with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to support the enhancement of a paediatric hospital in the Central African Republic.
