Representatives of AGESCI (Italian Catholic Scouts and Guides), ACLI (Christian Associations of Italian Workers), Catholic Action, the Community of Sant’Egidio, the Pope John XXIII Community, the Communion and Liberation Fraternity, the Focolare Movement, Christian Workers’ Movement, the Secular Franciscan Order and Renewal in the Holy Spirit took part.

Responding to Pope Leo’s call to promote peace, the associations reached out to the Minister to share their experiences and to appeal to Italy’s institutions to ensure that the pursuit of peace remains central to the Government’s political agenda, by intensifying diplomatic efforts and international engagement within the framework of a stronger and more determined European cooperation. This commitment, which is being further encouraged by the recent negotiations in Egypt that have laid the foundations for a cessation of hostilities in Gaza, is one that Italy is determined to fully support, as Minister Tajani reaffirmed.

“The commitment to peace is not merely an act of faith but a political duty — a responsibility shared by Catholics and citizens alike,” declared Minister Tajani, who wished to meet the delegation in person in order to hear their testimonies and experiences. The Minister underlined the significant contribution made by Catholic associations to Italian society and to the country’s international engagement, including through their strategic and structured partnership with the Italian Foreign Ministry and its network of Embassies and Consulates around the world.

He stressed the importance of the shared commitment to peace, which Italy continues to pursue tirelessly — particularly at this delicate moment of crisis. In this context, the Government highly values the initiatives of numerous Italian associations and Catholic missionaries who, in many parts of the world, promote conflict mediation and foster interreligious dialogue, thereby complementing and reinforcing Italy’s official diplomatic efforts. The collaboration with the Italian Development Cooperation is also particularly appreciated. Catholic associations make a valuable contribution through their widespread presence and deep understanding of local contexts in many developing countries, always placing the human person at the centre of their work.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, yesterday hosted at the Farnesina a meeting with a group of Catholic associations.
