The heads of Europe\u2019s foreign ministry ICT departments have held their first meeting, in Brussels. The event arose from the need to compare notes on common issues that have a supra-national dimension and could benefit from a collaborative approach by EU countries. Attendees were particularly interested in the presentations on best practices that could be disseminated to the ministries of other member states. <\/P>

Lync messaging and communications platform<\/STRONG><\/P>

The Farnesina was asked to open the session on national projects, with an illustration of the Lync messaging and communications platform. Available since 2011 for the Italian diplomatic-consular network, the Lync platform for video-calls, chatting and voice calls comes with utilities to facilitate team-building, including remotely.<\/P>
\n

For the Italian foreign ministry, this is the second EU recognition, after \u201cClaudiae\u201d, its data centre virtualisation project, which the European Commission included in its list of technological excellence projects.<\/P>
