The Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Giorgio Silli, took part today in Rome, on behalf of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani, in the Italy\u2013Turkmenistan Business Forum, which he inaugurated together with President Serdar Berdimuhamedow of Turkmenistan, on a State visit to Italy.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday\u2019s event represents another important step in bringing our two countries even closer. The Government is working with determination to enable Italian companies to take full advantage of the major opportunities emerging in Turkmenistan in the energy, infrastructure, manufacturing, defence and security sectors,\u201d Undersecretary Silli stated. He also underlined the growing strategic importance of Central Asia for global geopolitical stability and the deep ties linking the region to Italy, as reflected in the launch of the \u20181+5\u2019 regular consultation format with the five Central Asian countries.<\/p>\n
Turkmenistan\u2019s development potential is significant, as shown by the strong interest of the Italian business community in the country\u2019s efforts to diversify its economy. The Forum \u2013 organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in partnership with the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan \u2013 brought together over 150 institutional and business representatives from both countries.
