\u201cThe macro-region is a precise European Union strategy. A strategy that perhaps has not been all that evident until now\u201d. The point was made by Deputy Minister Marta Dass\u00f9, speaking at a conference on Macro-Regions organised by the Minister for Territorial Cohesion, Carlo Triglia, and the President of Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, Debora Serracchiani. <\/P>

\u201cWhen we speak of a macro-regional strategy with Trieste at the centre for geopolitical reasons\u201d, added Dass\u00f9, \u201cit means that member states must draw up an action plan that will then be approved and monitored by the European Council\u201d. Dass\u00f9 pointed out that \u201cthe action plan will be based on the ability to use structural, cohesion and regional funds with the focus on specific strategic projects\u201d. <\/P>

Focus on the Danube and Adriatic-Ionian regions<\/STRONG><\/P>

The event \u201cConnecting Macro-regions: Strengthening Economic and Institutional Cooperation on the Eve of the New Regional Policy of the European Union\u201d was organised by the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia and by the Central European Initiative (CEI) Forum, in cooperation with the Foreign Ministry. Its aim is to reinvigorate the debate on the European Union\u2019s macro-regions strategy, with the focus on the Danube and Adriatic-Ionian regions.<\/P>

After the conference, the Deputy Minister will visit Zadar to open the Italian \u201cPinocchio\u201d nursery.
