{"id":15734,"date":"2013-10-04T15:30:42","date_gmt":"2013-10-04T13:30:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.esteri.it\/sala_stampa\/archivionotizie\/comunicati\/2013\/10\/20131004_expobonusoris-2\/"},"modified":"2013-10-04T15:30:42","modified_gmt":"2013-10-04T13:30:42","slug":"20131004_expobonusoris","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.esteri.it\/en\/sala_stampa\/archivionotizie\/approfondimenti\/2013\/10\/20131004_expobonusoris\/","title":{"rendered":"Growth Diplomacy &#8211; Expo 2015: a new start for resources use, says Bonino"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><P>Speaking before dozens of delegates at the Lingotto (Turin) Expo International Participants Meeting, Minister Emma Bonino expressed the hope that Expo 2015 \u201cwill not be remembered for the skyscrapers and all the rest, but as a new start for many countries in the better management and use of the Earth and its resources\u201d, asserting that women will have certainly no small role in achieving this goal.<\/P><br \/>\n<P><STRONG>An extraordinary opportunity for women<\/STRONG><\/P><br \/>\n<P>The minister was convinced that \u201cExpo 2015 will be an extraordinary opportunity for women\u2019s leadership; the link between women and production is indissoluble\u201d, she said, and 2015 \u201cwill be the year in which the UN will be discussing new Millennium Goals. Food safety is going to be treated in a new way\u201d. The minister pointed out that \u201cdespite dramatic fragilities and tragedies, we are preparing for the event with enormous commitment. I hope that our efforts to promote women\u2019s leadership in this EXPO are successful, because the theme of nutrition is quite naturally linked with the role of women\u201d.<\/P><br \/>\n<P><STRONG>Innovation the key word<\/STRONG><\/P><br \/>\n<P>\u201cInnovation will, in any case, be the key word, and the one best suited to defining EXPO 2015\u201d, she continued, \u201cinnovation at the level of organization; innovation in relations with businesses\u201d. Bonino underscored that \u201cthe goal is to attract 6 million foreign visitors\u201d.<\/P><br \/>\n<P><STRONG>The WE-Women for Expo project<\/STRONG><\/P><br \/>\n<P>The Lingotto meeting also included the introduction of the WE \u2013 Women for Expo project, which places the accent on women and women\u2019s participation in decision-making processes.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>The project has three organisational goals:<\/P><br \/>\n<P><STRONG>Conferences in Italy and abroad<\/I><\/STRONG><\/P><br \/>\n<P>The organisation between now and 2015 of a series of EXPO-related conferences and events in both Italy and abroad, for the purpose of incorporating all the themes treated into a Charter for Women to be presented in Milan and later in New York during the United Nations for Women session. The first of these is envisaged for November in Rome with a \u201cgender and food safety\u201d event in the margins of the preparatory meeting for the Second International Nutrition Conference at FAO.<\/P><br \/>\n<P><STRONG>A woman representative for each pavilion<\/I><\/STRONG><\/P><br \/>\n<P>Bonino announced that the entire Italian diplomatic network would be lending its support to the creation of a global \u201cExpo commissioners\u201d network capable of placing a woman representative in each pavilion. \u201cThe existing network already has 25 commissioners, but we are counting on all participating countries\u201d, the minister said. \u201cThis project can rely on the Foreign Ministry\u2019s network, which is at the ready to make Milan a focal point for women. It will be the first EXPO ever with such a strong connotation in this sense, and I am very proud of that\u201d.
