Before the start of the G7 Foreign Ministers\u2019 Meeting in Niagara (Canada), Minister Antonio Tajani participated in a meeting requested by Ukraine with the Foreign Ministers of Italy, Germany, France and the European Union (EU members of the G7).<\/p>\n
The aim of the meeting was to renew support for Ukraine in light of recent developments on the ground. Minister Tajani confirmed: \u201cWe stand ready to provide all possible assistance to Kyiv, with particular focus on energy and humanitarian resilience, as well as defence, for which a 12th package of military aid is currently being prepared. We will supply new generators and technology to rehabilitate damaged power plants, together with financial and technical support\u201d. To date, Italy has allocated over EUR 100 million to support Ukraine\u2019s energy resilience, including grants and concessional loans for the reconstruction of the energy system, the green transition, and the protection of critical infrastructure.<\/p>\n
Minister Tajani also reaffirmed Italy\u2019s commitment to supporting the Ukrainian Armed Forces through the European Union Advisory Mission (EUAM) and the European Union Military Advisory Mission (EUMAM), as well as European programmes Security Action for Europe (SAFE) and European Defence Industry Programme (EDIP), aimed at strengthening both European and Ukrainian defence industries.<\/p>\n
Regarding the potential use of frozen Russian assets, currently under discussion in Brussels, Minister Tajani emphasised Italy\u2019s constructive approach, recalling that the 2024 compromise on the EUR 50 billion loan to Kyiv, based on profits from immobilised Russian sovereign assets, was agreed under Italy\u2019s G7 Presidency. He stressed that any solution must respect principles of legality, euro area stability, and overall sustainability, ensuring Italy\u2019s ability to continue supporting Ukraine in the future.<\/p>\n
Food security was also discussed, ahead of the fourth International Summit scheduled in Kyiv on 19 November, in which Italy will participate.
