The United Nations General Assembly today adopted by consensus the Resolution on the Olympic Truce in the lead-up to the Milan\u2013Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. The text, steered by the Italian Government as host country in close coordination with the International Olympic Committee and the Milan\u2013Cortina Foundation, secured more than 160 co-sponsorships.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe overwhelming support for Italy\u2019s Resolution on the Olympic Truce is a source of deep pride. Today we restore confidence in multilateralism through sport, which has brought all countries together around a central objective \u2013 the cessation of hostilities \u2013 and a shared vision of peace that constantly inspires our diplomatic work. We must all be champions of peace, as Pope Leo teaches us, and we want Italy to be ever more a crossroads of dialogue, development and mutual understanding among peoples. The Milan\u2013Cortina Olympic and Paralympic Games will offer a unique opportunity to contribute to efforts to resolve the many international conflicts that continue to mark our time. Working together for peace is possible \u2013 both on the playing field and in diplomacy,\u201d said the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, who expressed his satisfaction together with the Minister for Sport and Youth, Andrea Abodi, for the excellent teamwork.<\/p>\n

By calling on all Member States to respect the traditional truce, the UN General Assembly reaffirms the profound link between the Olympic ideal and the commitment to international stability.
