The Consulate General of Italy in Ho Chi Minh City has inaugurated a\u00a0red bench<\/strong>\u00a0in the waiting area of its premises, joining the initiative launched by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs,\u00a0Antonio Tajani<\/strong>, which calls for the installation of red benches across the network of Italian diplomatic and consular posts worldwide as a symbol of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs\u2019 commitment to countering all forms of violence and discrimination against women, both in Italy and around the world.
Consul General\u00a0Alessandra Tognonato<\/strong>\u00a0recalled Minister Tajani\u2019s words:
\u201cThe red bench is a symbol of the empty place left in society by a woman who has fallen victim to femicide: we must sit on those benches and show our support to women, against violence but also against any form of discrimination.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

The inauguration takes place today,\u00a025 November 2025<\/strong>, to mark the\u00a0International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women<\/strong>, demonstrating the strong commitment of the entire team of the Consulate General to the\u00a0\u2018Orange the World: End Violence against Women Now!\u2019<\/strong>\u00a0campaign promoted by\u00a0UN Women<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women also marks the beginning of the\u00a0\u201c16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence\u201d<\/strong>, leading up to\u00a0Human Rights Day<\/strong>\u00a0on 10 December. Launched in 1991 by the\u00a0Center for Women\u2019s Global Leadership (CWGL)<\/strong>\u00a0and supported by the United Nations, the initiative highlights that denying the existence of violence against women constitutes a violation of human rights.<\/p>\n

Italy has long been at the forefront\u2014at national and international level\u2014of efforts to prevent and combat all forms of violence and discrimination against women, as well as to promote gender equality and women\u2019s empowerment. This commitment remains central to Italy\u2019s foreign policy and has been reaffirmed through the recent adoption of the\u00a0Fifth National Action Plan for the implementation of the UN Agenda \u201cWomen, Peace and Security.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n
