The election took place yesterday in London during the 34th General Assembly of the Organization, a specialized United Nations agency aimed at promoting maritime cooperation and ensuring the safety of navigation and the protection of the marine environment.<\/p>\n<p>Category A of the Executive Council comprises States that, due to the size of their merchant fleets, provide the greatest momentum to the development of global maritime transport.<\/p>\n<p>Italy, a continuous member of the Council since the IMO&#8217;s inception, was the country with the highest number of votes, along with China. This result confirms the recognition of Italy&#8217;s unique contribution to the development and safety of global maritime transport.<\/p>\n<p>The elected countries were the following: Italy, China, Japan, Greece, Liberia, Norway, Panama, the United Kingdom, the Republic of Korea, and the United States.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Italy was re-elected to Category A of the Council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for the 2026-2027 term.
