On the occasion of International Human Rights Day \u2014 which marks the adoption of the 1948 Universal Declaration \u2014 the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, reaffirmed that the promotion and protection of fundamental rights remain a non-negotiable pillar of Italy\u2019s international engagement.<\/p>\n
This year, the anniversary takes on particular significance following Italy\u2019s recent election to the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2026\u20132028 term. This achievement represents concrete recognition of our country\u2019s commitment to defending the dignity of every individual and of the Italian diplomatic tradition of dialogue and mediation.<\/p>\n
Minister Tajani recalled that the mandate within the Council will inject new momentum into Italy\u2019s long-standing priorities: the universal abolition of the death penalty, the promotion of gender equality, the protection of the rights of children and the most vulnerable, the defence of freedom of expression and religion, and the fight against all forms of discrimination.<\/p>\n
