The ministerial meeting of the G7+ Energy Coordination Group was held today at the request of the Ukrainian authorities, with the primary aim of assessing Ukraine\u2019s energy needs ahead of the 2025\u20132026 winter season, in light of the increasing vulnerability of the country\u2019s infrastructure and the severity of the humanitarian situation. Italy was represented by Undersecretary of State Maria Tripodi, on behalf of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani. Co-chaired by the European Commission and the Canadian G7 Presidency and attended by the First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, Ms Svyrydenko, the G7+ Energy Coordination meeting is one of the pillars of the Ukraine Donor Platform. It focuses on immediate support, repair and reconstruction of damaged energy infrastructure, as well as on strengthening the structural resilience and alignment of the Ukrainian energy system with European standards.<\/p>\n
In her remarks, Undersecretary Tripodi stressed the urgency of maintaining strong international attention on the country\u2019s energy situation, recalling that \u201cthe intensification of Russian attacks against critical infrastructure aims to turn winter into a tool of pressure against the civilian population\u201d. Tripodi highlighted Italy\u2019s leading role in supporting the Ukrainian energy sector, pointing to the new assistance package for the 2025\u20132026 winter season. This includes a contribution of EUR 10 million to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, around EUR 100 million for the purchase of generators, transformers and equipment through Italian companies, and additional private-sector donations, including photovoltaic panels supplied by Enel within the \u201cRay of Hope II\u201d initiative.<\/p>\n
The Undersecretary also referred to the broader scope of Italy\u2019s contribution which, since 2022, has allocated more than EUR 130 million to strengthening the Ukrainian energy system, developing sustainable urban infrastructure and providing high-efficiency turbines.
