The Italian Consulate General has joined the \u201cGreen Farnesina\u201d programme designed to promote ever-higher environmental standards and sustainable projects. With the help of sponsorship from Italian companies operating in Morocco, three separate initiatives are now under way to make the Consulate a \u201claboratory\u201d for sustainable projects. <\/P>

Environmentally harmful emissions reduced by around 32 tons per year<\/STRONG><\/P> Producing electricity from solar panels will enable the Consulate to reduce environmentally harmful <\/STRONG>emissions that contribute to global warming by around 32 tons per year. The impact equates to planting about 1500 new trees each year. The plant has an expected lifespan of 15 years, with minimum maintenance required. <\/P> LED lighting<\/STRONG><\/P> <\/STRONG><\/P> The internal and external perimeter of the Consulate building will be lit by modern LED floodlights, thus reducing energy consumption by over 80%. <\/P> \u201cSustainable Office Handbook\u201d<\/STRONG><\/P> A \u201cSustainable Office Handbook\u201d has been drawn up with guidelines to help staff achieve ever-higher environment sustainability standards (and cut running costs). <\/P> The new photovoltaic plant, energy-saving measures and recycling processes for paper and IT material will produce savings of around 200,000 euros in the next 15 years. <\/P> No cost for tax-payers<\/STRONG><\/P>
