Italy will be sending \u201cup to 24 men\u201d of an expected 250 total, which could \u201cdouble if need be\u201d, Minister Giulio Terzi reported.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>\u201cThe decision\u201d, Terzi continued, \u201cwas discussed yesterday in both houses of parliament, where it earned the convinced support and vote of the three forces supporting the government, an essential prerequisite at this moment with regard both to Italian domestic policy as well as to the international situation\u201d.<\/P><br \/>\n<P><STRONG>No direct military intervention<\/STRONG><\/P><br \/>\n<P>Italy\u2019s logistical support for the French mission, \u201cwill in no way be a direct military intervention\u201d, Terzi specified, explaining that \u201cno deployment of Italian military forces in the operational theatre is being contemplated\u201d, adding that \u201cthis is the status of the reflection within the government and which is also being outlined in Parliament\u201d.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>The minister then explained that Italy viewed \u201cthe international community\u2019s efforts as a whole as positive, which are sanctioned by resolution 2085 and reinforced by the unanimous Security Council statement, including China and Russia, appealing for support for the Malian government in its counter-terrorist struggles\u201d.<\/P><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"An EU training mission in Mali was approved today at a foreign ministers meeting in Brussels.
