Minister of Foreign Affairs Tajani held telephone discussions today with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait, Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Algeria, Ahmed Attaf, to exchange views on the crisis in the Gulf and recent military attacks in Lebanon.<\/p>\n
During the discussions, Minister Tajani welcomed the announcement of the two-week truce reached overnight between Iran and the United States. He emphasised that the priority now is to consolidate this result through a permanent cessation of hostilities and the attainment of a peace agreement.<\/p>\n
The recent attacks targeting Gulf countries, along with ongoing military operations in Israel, remain a cause for concern regarding the stability of the truce.<\/p>\n
Both sides agreed on the shared objective of achieving a lasting peace that respects the security requirements of all actors involved. Tajani praised the responsible stance adopted by the Gulf States, which, despite facing unjustified attacks, refrained from actions that could have triggered further escalation.<\/p>\n
The Minister also condemned the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) attack on an Italian UNIFIL convoy, reiterating that endangering UNIFIL personnel and convoys cannot be tolerated. He stressed that IDF operations affecting the civilian population in Lebanon risk undermining a truce that is vital for regional stability.<\/p>\n
To his Kuwaiti counterpart, Minister Tajani reaffirmed Italy\u2019s full support, highlighting the continuity of Italy\u2019s presence through the Embassy and the contribution of Italian military personnel stationed in the country, as a demonstration of Italy\u2019s concrete commitment to stability and security in the region. In his conversation with Minister Attaf, he underscored Algeria\u2019s prominent role in the Arab world and in the energy sector, noting that Algiers is a crucial partner for Italy in securing energy supplies, at a time when security and diversification of sources are of fundamental strategic importance.<\/p>\n
