The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, is in Berlin today to participate in the Third Humanitarian Conference for Sudan, taking place on 15 April, marking the third anniversary of the outbreak of the civil war. The Sudanese crisis represents the world\u2019s most severe humanitarian emergency, with around 15 million displaced people.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe civil war in Sudan must be brought to an immediate end. We call on all countries supporting the warring parties to cooperate. There is no alternative to peace,\u201d the Minister stated. \u201cThrough the Italy for Sudan initiative, Italy has mobilised more than 130 tonnes of humanitarian assistance and over EUR 6 million in funding for emergency interventions, and we intend to further scale up this support. At the same time, we must intensify efforts to urgently secure a cessation of hostilities and ensure unhindered humanitarian access for the civilian population\u201d.<\/p>\n
The Conference aims to mobilise funding in support of the humanitarian response in Sudan. Since 2023, Italy has allocated over EUR 33 million for emergency interventions in the country, which remains a priority for Italian Development Cooperation.<\/p>\n
The Italy for Sudan initiative, launched by Minister Tajani in late 2025, adopts a whole-of-system approach and is structured around three main pillars: life-saving assistance for displaced populations; support for refugees, host communities and host countries; and facilitation of safe and voluntary returns. In 2026, under this initiative, 132 tonnes of humanitarian goods\u2014both food and non-food items\u2014have been allocated, together with two financial contributions: EUR 5 million to the Food and Agriculture Organization for agricultural resilience projects and EUR 1 million to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies for water access, shelter and medical assistance.<\/p>\n
