The Syrian crisis was one of the items on the agenda of the NATO ministerial meeting. Italy would consider the Syrian regime\u2019s use of chemical weapons \u201cabsolutely unacceptable\u201d, stated Minister Giulio Terzi, participating in the two-day meeting in Brussels. \u201cWe already informed the Syrian ambassador of that during the UN General Assembly in New York\u201d, he added, \u201cfollowing suit with the Alliance\u2019s principal partners, and that was not all\u201d. <\/P>

Political solution a priority<\/STRONG><\/P>
\n

The minister underscored that \u201ca political solution, first and foremost\u201d was what Italy was aiming for. \u201cWe discussed post-Assad reconstruction and institution-building with many colleagues\u201d, he stated, \u201cOur immediate concern is still for the damage and horrible killings the regime is causing; we are pushing for a political solution based on the Doha platform\u201d.<\/P>

“Concern” for the southeast border<\/STRONG><\/P>
\n

Arriving at the Alliance\u2019s Brussels headquarters, Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen defined the situation at NATO\u2019s southeast border as one of \u201cdeep concern\u201d, reiterating \u201cfull solidarity with Turkey\u201d.
