Supply: reduced premiums on families and business<\/STRONG><\/P> Terzi pointed out that 80% of our energy need consists of imports, and that the goal of our diplomacy was to \u201creduce the premiums that businesses and families pay to ensure supply continuity\u201d. One way to do that could be, for example, by \u201cplacing Italy\u2019s production excellence at the service of supplier countries and of the diversification of their economies\u201d.<\/P> Preventing risk and anticipating change<\/STRONG><\/P> Energy diplomacy, he added, must aim to \u201cprevent risks and anticipate changes\u201d such as rising fuel costs and the \u201cboom in alternate sources\u201d like shale gas. Moreover, it must be a \u201cforerunner\u201d by creating enduring relations with the countries from which we purchase our methane. Gas is going to be a major source of diversification \u2013 \u201cthe South Stream and Trans-Adriatic Pipeline are being developed with that in mind\u201d \u2013 and, while Central Asian deposits \u201cwill satisfy European needs\u201d, it is \u201cessential that Europe take a unified stand and agree\u201d on strategies for managing those flows. <\/P> Finally, energy security can also be ensured through the growing promotion of alternative sources, which can become \u201ca growth factor for our businesses, which have an exceptional capacity for innovation and for proposing avant-garde solutions\u201d.
