Also \u201cwelcomed\u201d during the meeting was Secretary General Ban ki-Moon\u2019s mission to the region.<\/P><br \/>\n<P><STRONG><\/STRONG><\/P><br \/>\n<P><STRONG>Grave concern<\/STRONG><\/P><br \/>\n<P>The Foreign Affairs Council conclusions expressed \u201cgrave concern about the situation in Gaza and Israel and deeply regrets the loss of civilian life on both sides. All attacks must end immediately as they cause unjustifiable suffering of innocent civilians\u201d.<\/P><br \/>\n<P><STRONG>Immediate ceasefire<\/STRONG><\/P><br \/>\n<P>The European Union \u201cstrongly condemns the rocket attacks on Israel from the Gaza Strip <\/P><br \/>\n<P>which Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza must cease immediately\u201d. \u201cIsrael\u201d, in underscored, \u201chas the right to protect its population from these kinds of attacks; in doing so it must act proportionately and ensure the protection of civilians at all times\u201d. The EU stressed \u201cthe need for all sides to fully respect international humanitarian law\u201d.<\/P><br \/>\n<P><STRONG>EU: two State solution<\/STRONG><\/P><br \/>\n<P>The conclusions stressed that \u201can immediate cessation of hostilities is in everyone\u2019s interest, particularly at a time of instability in the region.
