The Berlin concert marked the inaugural event of <em>Sinopoliana<\/em>, a series of commemorative celebrations dedicated to Giuseppe Sinopoli on the 25th anniversary of his passing, supported by the Ministry for Sport and Youth and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation,hrough the Italian Cultural Institute in Berlin. The festival will continue with further events in Germany, as well as in Rome and Venice.<\/p>\n<p>Sinopoli was a central figure in European musical culture: conductor, composer, intellectual, and scholar of myth and antiquity.\u00a0 The commemorative programme seeks to reflect and highlight the complexity of his thought and artistic journey, which is deeply intertwined with the German-speaking world. Shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Maestro moved to East Germany to conduct the S\u00e4chsische Staatskapelle Dresden from 1992 until his death, and he was the first Italian conductor to perform Wagner\u2019s complete <em>Der Ring des Nibelungen<\/em> (The Ring of the Nibelung) at the Bayreuth Festival.<\/p>\n<p>During the Berlin concert, three works by Giuseppe Sinopoli were performed:\u00a0 <em>Lirica for soprano and piano<\/em>, with a text by the composer (1964); <em>Strutture<\/em> for solo piano (1969); and sections I, II, III, IV and VII of the <em>Klaviersonate<\/em> for solo piano (1974). The programme also included <em>Was brauchst du?<\/em> for solo soprano by contemporary Italian composer Daniela Fantechi, as well as works by Alban Berg, Ferruccio Busoni and Gustav Mahler, all composers greatly admired by Sinopoli.
