The Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani had a long phone call this evening with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, focusing on the main international dossiers, with particular attention to the Middle East. Significant time was devoted to negotiations between Israel and Lebanon and to the Iranian crisis.<\/p>\n
Tajani expressed appreciation for the United States\u2019 diplomatic efforts, which made it possible to launch a new round of talks in Washington, reiterating the need to reach an agreement that ensures the exclusively civilian nature of Iran\u2019s nuclear program.<\/p>\n
Tajani also referred to his recent mission to Beirut and his contacts with key regional interlocutors, confirming Italy\u2019s willingness to host future negotiations.<\/p>\n
During the call, they also discussed the prospects for regional de-escalation and the resumption of dialogue in Islamabad. Tajani confirmed Italy\u2019s support for Pakistan\u2019s mediation efforts, stressing the urgency of ensuring the security of Gulf countries and the reopening, under safe conditions, of the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n
In this context, Italy remains ready to contribute to multilateral initiatives for maritime security and freedom of navigation, in full respect of international law.<\/p>\n
The two ministers also welcomed the signing of the EU\u2013United States agreement on critical minerals, aimed at strengthening the resilience of supply chains.<\/p>\n
On Venezuela, Tajani highlighted the resumption of political contacts, also in light of recent talks with Vice President Delcy Rodr\u00edguez and the upcoming visit to Italy of Venezuela\u2019s Minister of Trade.<\/p>\n
They also discussed the political and humanitarian situation in Cuba.<\/p>\n
