{"id":18561,"date":"2012-11-06T15:32:44","date_gmt":"2012-11-06T14:32:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.esteri.it\/sala_stampa\/archivionotizie\/comunicati\/2012\/11\/20121106_italialibia-2\/"},"modified":"2012-11-06T15:32:44","modified_gmt":"2012-11-06T14:32:44","slug":"20121106_italialibia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.esteri.it\/en\/sala_stampa\/archivionotizie\/approfondimenti\/2012\/11\/20121106_italialibia\/","title":{"rendered":"Italy-Libya: Terzi in Tripoli &#8211;\u00a0Solid friendship, stability and security common priorities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><P>Minister Giulio Terzi, the first foreign minister since the formation of the new Libyan government, flew to Tripoli to \u201cconfirm the solid friendship between Italy and Libya and the partnership between the Italian government and the newly installed Libyan government\u201d. \u201cIt is a great honour for me\u201d, Terzi underscored, \u201cas well as a very attractive opportunity, to be here in these early hours of the new government\u2019s activities, and to be able to generate an immediate dialogue and concrete interaction on the many questions that so deeply concern our two nations\u201d. <\/P><br \/>\n<P><STRONG>Stability and security<\/STRONG><\/P><br \/>\n<P>\u201cStability and security are priorities for both our governments, and we intend to cooperate in these areas\u201d, the minister explained, who was in the Libyan capital to meet with President of the Libyan National Congress Mohammed Mgarief and Premier Ali Zidane. \u201cOur firms\u201d, he added, \u201chave been working for years in partnership with the Libyans, and intend to continue to do so\u201d.<\/P><br \/>\n<P><STRONG>Illegal immigration a humanitarian priority<\/STRONG><\/P><br \/>\n<P>Among the questions confronted was illegal immigration, which was \u201ca concern to both nations\u201d, Terzi affirmed. In particular, \u201cmy government and public opinion itself are concerned with the highly serious humanitarian impact on persons who regularly risk their lives after having been deceived by human traffickers\u201d. Pointing out that both nations wish to respect international conventions, especially those concerning human rights, Terzi underscored the importance of \u201ccollaboration with the United Nations and, more specifically, with the UNHCR\u201d, which must be able to \u201cset up offices on Libyan soil\u201d.<\/P><br \/>\n<P><STRONG>\u201cLibya\u2019s positive contribution at international level\u201d<\/STRONG><\/P><br \/>\n<P>Premier Zidane stated that \u201cstarting today Libya will no longer be a State that creates problems or that exports extremist ideas\u201d, but rather will make \u201ca positive contribution at international level based on cooperation and mutual respect\u201d. The new government, he reported, \u201cwill swear to shoulder the task next week\u201d.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>Regarding bilateral relations with Italy, the issue of approximately \u20ac600 million in loans claimed by Italian firms working in Libya in the days of Gedaffi, Zidane explained to journalists: \u201cWe will provide for the fulfillment of our pledges but we are bound by circumstances\u201d. \u201cItaly is our top partner\u201d, he continued, \u201cand we mean to preserve our relations.
