The operation aims to allow them to leave the Gaza Strip and arrive in Italy to study at Italian universities. After completing visa and permit procedures, the convoy will reach the Allenby crossing to Jordan, and is expected to arrive in Amman in the evening. Seventy of the 72 students who left the Gaza Strip today, are headed to Italy and two to the Republic of San Marino. The students will be hosted overnight at the Italian Hospital in Amman. They will reach Rome tomorrow and Milan on Wednesday.

Minister Tajani said: “With this new university corridor, we continue to provide young Palestinians with a concrete opportunity for a future, for education, and security. Italy reaffirms its humanitarian commitment to Gaza’s civilian population and its support for the right to education, even in the tragic context of the Gaza Strip.”

The students will study in 21 Italian universities, including the State University of Milan, the Universities of Sassari and Cagliari, the Alma Mater University of Bologna, La Sapienza and Tor Vergata Universities in Rome, the University of Calabria, the Bocconi University in Milan, the Universities of Parma, Trieste, Palermo, Foggia, Pavia, Camerino, and the Federico II University in Naples. Two students will also study in the University of San Marino.

Today’s operation brings to 229 the number of students evacuated from Gaza since September 2025 thanks to Italy’s efforts: 157 students had already been evacuated in the four operations carried out between September and December of last year, in addition to the 72 students who left the Gaza Strip today. The operations are coordinated by the Foreign Ministry with the Embassies in Tel Aviv and Amman and the Consulate General in Jerusalem, in coordination with the Jordanian and Israeli authorities. They are part of the programme “IUPALS” (Italian Universities for Palestinian Students), promoted by the Conference of Italian University Rectors in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of University and Research.

The “university corridors” initiative is also part of the broader Italian humanitarian commitment to support the civilian population of the Gaza Strip, within the framework of the “Food for Gaza” initiative launched by Minister Tajani and hinged around humanitarian aid, healthcare, and educational programmes.

Seventy-two Palestinian university students from Gaza crossed the Israeli Kerem Shalom crossing today as part of the “university corridors” operation, initiated by Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani.
