With a view to celebrating World Press Freedom Day and the new national anniversary in memory of journalists killed in the line of duty, established by the Italian Parliament, the \u00a0Permanent Representation of Italy to the OSCE – in cooperation with ANSA – opened today in Vienna the photographic exhibition “Safeguarding Press Freedom: Protecting Journalists, Defending Democracy,” dedicated to the topics of media freedom and journalist safety.<\/p>\n
The initiative presents a selection of pictures aimed at drawing attention to the importance of free, independent, and pluralistic information, as well as the risks and threats to which journalists and media workers are increasingly exposed in contexts of crisis, conflict, and growing pressure on information.<\/p>\n
The opening was attended by Permanent Representatives of OSCE participating States, press associations, the Office of the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media (RFOM), and ANSA, a partner in the initiative.<\/p>\n
During the event, it was recalled that the protection of media freedom and the safety of journalists are essential elements of the comprehensive concept of security promoted by the OSCE and are a fundamental prerequisite for democratic, open, and resilient societies.
