The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, today chaired the second meeting of the year of the Joint Committee for Development Cooperation, during which the 2026 Programming of Italian development cooperation was approved. It foresees grant and soft loan interventions totalling EUR 1.7 billion.<\/p>\n
The Minister chaired in particular the first part of the meeting, strongly emphasising that \u201ccooperation is an integral part of the country\u2019s foreign policy; it is a key instrument for advancing the ideas of peace and development which are the cornerstones of Italian policy and are reflected in the Mattei Plan\u201d. The Foreign Minister also underlined the need to maintain a high level of commitment to transparency in all procedures, in order to ensure the proper use of public funds, in the spirit of good governance.<\/p>\n
The interventions take into account the need to respond to humanitarian crises and reconstruction challenges, in particular in Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, Ukraine, Afghanistan and Sudan.<\/p>\n
In this context, Minister Tajani announced a new EUR 15 million assistance package in favour of the Lebanese population, following the EUR 10 million already approved in April. The measures will focus on emergency activities supporting all communities and displaced persons in southern Lebanon, with projects implemented by civil society organisations and for agricultural recovery in cooperation with the FAO, with particular attention to support for Christian communities.<\/p>\n
The Joint Committee also approved a development package worth over EUR 250 million. This includes interventions in Ukraine, Latin America and contributions to the fight against HIV, tuberculosis and malaria, as well as to the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations.<\/p>\n
