The Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Massimo Dell\u2019Utri, took part in the 135th Ministerial Session of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, concluded today in Chisinau, Moldova, under the Moldovan Presidency. Support for Ukraine, strengthening democratic security, combating Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI), as well as the management of migratory phenomena, have been at the heart of the work of the Ministerial session \u2013 the Organisation\u2019s main annual political event dedicated to the promotion and protection of human rights, democracy and the rule of law in Europe.<\/p>\n
On Italy\u2019s initiative, and at the end of a path of dialogue and confrontation promoted last year by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, the Committee of Ministers adopted by consensus the Chisinau Declaration on Migration and the European Convention on Human Rights. \u201cThe Declaration reaffirms the inviolable rights of all stakeholders and recognises the legitimate security needs of States and citizens\u201d, explained the Undersecretary in his speech. \u201cIt is essential to be able to respond with new tools to today\u2019s challenges\u201d Dell\u2019Utri continued, stressing that the document recognises the need to address the challenges posed by irregular migration effectively and in a timely manner, in order to strengthen border protection and ensure national security, also through innovative instruments for cooperation with third Countries in the management of migration flows and in combating migrant trafficking and organised crime, while reaffirming the central role of the European Convention on Human Rights as a pillar of the European legal order.<\/p>\n
The 46 Member States of the Council of Europe have also renewed their firm support for Ukraine, with particular reference to the international instruments for ascertaining Russian responsibility for the aggression. 36 States, including Italy, and the European Union have adopted the decision establishing the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine, as a concrete contribution to the pursuit of international justice and to the achievement of a just and lasting peace.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Massimo Dell\u2019Utri, took part in the 135th Ministerial Session of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, concluded today in Chisinau, Moldova, under the Moldovan Presidency.
