While in Cyprus for the EU Council and a meeting with Italian business representatives, Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani reaffirmed Italy\u2019s support and solidarity with the Cypriot Government, an EU Member State that was targeted in recent months by missile launches from Iran.<\/p>\n
In a meeting with the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, Tajani confirmed Italy\u2019s intention to strengthen energy cooperation, a strategic sector for both countries and for the wider Eastern Mediterranean. \u201cMoreover, Italy and Cyprus aim to work together to strengthen the Mediterranean segment of the IMEC corridor, a major strategic project to connect India to Europe through routes alternative to existing ones,\u201d the Minister recalled.<\/p>\n
Tajani also announced that the Italian Embassy, under Ambassador Antonella Cavallari, will organise, in parallel with the America\u2019s Cup in Naples, a \u201cPeace Regatta\u201d open to crews from all Mediterranean countries. The initiative is also promoted in view of the America\u2019s Cup, which will take place in Naples in July 2027, and is expected to involve dozens of boats sailing the route between Ayia Napa and Limassol. The race aims to promote sport as a unifying factor\u2014a \u201cPeace Regatta\u201d in a region currently severely affected by conflicts and tensions.<\/p>\n
