The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, today met at the Farnesina with the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Albania, Ferit Hoxha. The meeting \u2014 which followed an initial encounter on 12 May during the Friends of the Western Balkans Group meeting in Bratislava \u2014 confirmed the excellent state of bilateral relations between Italy and Albania, strengthened by frequent political and institutional contacts at all levels. The two Ministers reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the full implementation of the Strategic Cooperation Agreement across all sectors, beginning with migration cooperation.<\/p>\n
Extensive discussions were also devoted to the main regional and international dossiers. Minister Tajani reiterated that the Western Balkans remain a priority for Italian foreign policy, stressing the need to revive the dialogue between Serbia and Kosovo and addressing the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina ahead of the elections scheduled for next autumn, alongside the main regional and international crises. Minister Tajani also reaffirmed Italy\u2019s full support for the European Union accession path of Albania and the Western Balkans.<\/p>\n
During the meeting, the solidity of bilateral economic relations was also underlined, and it was agreed to provide fresh impetus through the organisation of a business forum in Albania in the coming months, with a particular focus on the food sector.<\/p>\n
In 2025, bilateral trade reached EUR 3.2 billion, with a strong and diversified presence of Italian companies in Albania, particularly in the energy, infrastructure, defence, transport and steel sectors. Tajani highlighted the importance of further strengthening economic ties and regional connectivity, also by capitalising on the opportunities offered by the new strategic corridors, such as IMEC and Corridor VIII.<\/p>\n
Finally, the two Ministers recalled the strong cultural and people-to-people ties linking Italy and Albania.
