In her address,\u00a0Ambassador Roberta Di Lecce\u00a0recalled that the birth of the Republic on 2 June 1946 was the result of a \u201cfree and democratic choice\u201d, marking a moral and civic rebirth of the country, founded on the principles of human dignity, social justice, and international responsibility. It was, she stressed, a \u201ccourageous choice for peace, democracy, and freedom\u201d.<\/p>\n
The Ambassador also highlighted the fundamental role of\u00a0women\u00a0in building the Republican Italy, recalling their contribution to the Resistance and their participation \u2013 for the first time \u2013 in the vote for the Referendum and the Constituent Assembly. The images from the ANSA exhibition\u00a0\u201cWomen of the Republic \u2013 Eighty Years of Achievements in ANSA\u2019s Reports 1946\u20132026\u201d\u00a0accompanied this part of her remarks, offering a visual testimony of their commitment.<\/p>\n
Quoting the words of the\u00a0President of the Italian Republic,\u00a0Sergio Mattarella, Ambassador Di Lecce emphasized the choice made by the founding fathers in favour of\u00a0peace, enshrined in\u00a0Article 11\u00a0of the Constitution, which rejects war as a means of resolving international disputes and promotes cooperation among States on an equal footing. She also recalled Italy\u2019s commitment to\u00a0Europeanism,\u00a0Atlanticism, and\u00a0multilateralism, pillars of Italian foreign policy.<\/p>\n
The Ambassador underlined the importance of\u00a0international cooperation, at the heart of relations between Italy and the African continent, as reaffirmed by the\u00a0Mattei Plan. In this context, she highlighted the role of C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire, described as a \u201cnation of stability, dynamism, and ambition\u201d, with which bilateral relations have deepened significantly, particularly following the historic visit of President Mattarella in April 2024, the first official visit of an Italian Head of State to the country.<\/p>\n
At the bilateral level, the Ambassador welcomed the ratification of the\u00a0Agreement on Security and Migration, as well as the launch of several Mattei Plan projects in the fields of education and health. On the economic front, trade between Italy and C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire continues to show a positive trend, confirming the complementarity of the two economies and the opportunities offered by the Ivorian market to Italian companies. She also recalled the opening of the\u00a0coordination structure for the Italian development cooperation system\u00a0within the Embassy, the AICS office in Abidjan, and the local office of CDP, concrete signs of Italy\u2019s long-term commitment to supporting C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire\u2019s development priorities.<\/p>\n
