According to a foreign ministry spokesperson, France is calling for \u201can end to the violence and the use of heavy artillery by the regime\u201d, and according to British Foreign Secretary William Hague \u201cthis totally unacceptable escalation of the conflict could lead to devastating civilian losses and a humanitarian disaster.
