Yes to transitional government<\/STRONG><\/P> The request during the conference by the Action Group, after meeting in Geneva, for the establishment of a transitional governmental body with full executive powers, was received \u201cfavourably\u201d. The participants \u201cagreed and clearly affirmed that those whose presence would compromise the transition’s credibility should be distanced. In this respect, they stressed that Bashar al-Assad should leave power\u201d. The UN and Arab League Special Envoy was \u201cencouraged\u201d to work toward \u201cimplementing this immediate transition, urging all parties to support these efforts\u201d.<\/P> The statement cites the agreement to \u201cmassively increase\u201d aid to the rebels, especially in the form of communications equipment. The UN Security Council was also urged to take tougher action with a new resolution under Chapter 7 of the UN charter.<\/P> A regime about to topple<\/STRONG><\/P> \u201cWe have got to close the gap between words and results\u201d, said Italian Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs Marta Dass\u00f9, who pointed out at the end of the meeting that the possibility of the regime\u2019s eventual collapse was \u201ca realistic scenario\u201d. The task at hand today is to \u201ctotally isolate the regime\u201d, Dass\u00f9 added, insisting on the need to convince Russia and China \u2013 which did not participate in the meeting \u2013 to withdraw their support from Damascus. Today\u2019s \u201cis a collective effort at persuasion\u201d, Dass\u00f9 explained, stressing that \u201cthe number of countries participating in the conference of Friends of Syria has grown enormously\u201d.<\/P> Italy<\/STRONG> willing to host upcoming conferences<\/STRONG><\/P> Italy also confirmed its willingness to host Friends of Syria conference after the one already scheduled for Morocco.
