A call for proposals for joint research projects<\/a> within the framework of scientific and technological cooperation between Italy and the United States for the two-year period 2027\u20132028 has been published. This initiative forms part of the established framework of collaboration between the two countries and supports research projects carried out by teams of Italian and US researchers.<\/p>\n

The programme, which is periodically renewed under the Italy\u2013US Scientific and Technological Cooperation Agreement, is one of the most important tools for fostering the development of prestigious scientific partnerships, the mobility of researchers and the implementation of highly innovative research activities.<\/p>\n

This edition features some significant new developments: for the first time, funding from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), the Ministry of University and Research (MUR) and the Ministry of Health has been incorporated, enabling a significant increase in the programme\u2019s overall budget, which now stands at approximately EUR 1.8 million per year for two years \u2013 roughly double that of the previous edition.<\/p>\n

The thematic areas identified reflect the strategic priorities set out at the last Italy\u2013US Joint Committee Meeting, held in Washington in April 2026, and cover some of the most advanced fields of scientific and technological research: new digital technologies, including high-performance computing, artificial intelligence and quantum technologies; biotechnology for health; advanced and sustainable nuclear technologies; and innovative materials.<\/p>\n

The publication of the call for proposals comes just a few days before the \u201cBusiness, Investment, Science and Innovation Forum\u201d, scheduled to take place in Miami on 22 June 2026, which will also host a Italy\u2013US bilateral scientific dialogue. This timing will ensure that the initiative receives immediate visibility within a high-profile context dedicated to economic, scientific and technological cooperation between the two countries.<\/p>\n

This call for proposals forms part of a context of particularly dynamic and fruitful scientific relations between Italy and the United States. Over 15,000 Italian researchers are currently working in the United States, whilst the Italian scientific network can count on seven Scientific Attach\u00e9s based across the US and on the presence of INNOVIT in San Francisco, a strategic hub for innovation and technology transfer.<\/p>\n
