The Foreign Ministers of Italy, France, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway and the United Kingdom have adopted a Joint Statement urging all parties to the conflict in Sudan to de-escalate, in light of an extraordinarily severe humanitarian crisis that continues to affect the country\u2019s population.<\/p>\n
The text of the Statement follows:<\/p>\n
We, the Foreign\u00a0Ministers\u00a0of like-minded partners (France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands,\u00a0Norway, UK), are deeply concerned by reports of a continued assault on El Obeid, despite calls for a halt to the attack and protection of civilians.<\/p>\n
Last year, the world\u00a0witnessed\u00a0with horror the atrocities in El Fasher\u00a0–\u00a0 crimes\u00a0that are assessed to bear the \u201challmarks of genocide\u201d.\u00a0We must not allow such failures to be repeated.<\/p>\n
In recent weeks, repeated drone strikes on El Obeid have killed civilians and driven acute shortages of fuel,\u00a0food\u00a0and water. With the rainy season fast approaching, humanitarian workers continue to provide life-saving\u00a0assistance\u00a0but are being deliberately targeted.<\/p>\n
There are now credible signs of an imminent offensive. This is a critical moment, and the international community must act.<\/p>\n
We call on the RSF to halt its attack\u00a0immediately. Civilians must be able to leave safely, and all parties must ensure rapid,\u00a0safe\u00a0and unhindered humanitarian access.\u00a0The RSF\u00a0and\u00a0the SAF,\u00a0and their allies,\u00a0must de-escalate, uphold international humanitarian law, and honour their commitments under the Jeddah Declaration.<\/p>\n
External support continues to sustain this conflict.\u00a0We\u00a0call on those fuelling the conflict to cease, and those with influence must exercise it now to avoid further bloodshed.<\/p>\n
We will continue to work closely at the UN Security Council and with regional and international partners to secure a clear and unified response: the violence must end, civilians must be protected, and those responsible must be held to account.
