To mark the centenary of Dario Fo\u2019 birth, winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature, the Centro Cultural Lo Prado in Santiago de Chile hosted a performance of \u2018Mistero Buffo\u2019, starring the actor Matthias Martelli, directed by Eugenio Allegri and produced by the Teatro Stabile di Torino \u2013 Teatro Nazionale.<\/p>\n
The event was attended by around 300 spectators, who watched with interest a performance based on physical expression, the use of grammelot and a skilful adaptation to the local context through the inclusion of some Chilean linguistic references.<\/p>\n
The performance was preceded by a masterclass on jester theatre, led by Matthias Martelli at the Italian Cultural Institute in Santiago. Around 90 people took part in the event, exploring the origins of Italian and European folk theatre, from medieval jesters to the Commedia dell\u2019Arte, right through to the work of Dario Fo and his contribution to contemporary theatre.<\/p>\n
The initiatives were carried out in collaboration with local cultural partners, including the Fundaci\u00f3n Centro Cultural Lo Prado, the Federaci\u00f3n Nacional de Cooperativas de Artes Integradas (FEDARTES), the Cooperativa de Artes Esc\u00e9nicas Hecho en Chile and the theatre company Lafamiliateatro, and received widespread coverage in the Chilean media.<\/p>\n
