The ceremony took place on 7 May 2012 in St. Stevenskerk, in the presence of the Minister for European Affairs, Knapen, and the Speaker of the Dutch Senate, de Graaf.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>The initiative was promoted jointly by the City Council and University of Nijmegen, with support from the Dutch Foreign Ministry. The medal is awarded every two years. It is inspired by the ideals that from 1678 to 1679 brought an end to the \u201cDutch War\u201d and which have taken the name of the Dutch town, the country\u2019s oldest.
