24 April – 11.00 – ITALY-INDONESIA: Trade Minister in Jakarta indicates room for trade increase of $4.5-25 billion – attractive prospects, says Terzi <\/STRONG><\/STRONG><\/P> \u201cThere is room for investments by Italian firms, and for increasing trade from $4.5 billion to $25 billion, equal to 1% of the combined GDP of our two nations\u201d, said Indonesian Trade Minister Gita Wirjawan in the margins of a meeting in Jakarta with Minister Giulio Terzi, who defined prospects as \u201cextremely attractive\u201d.<\/P> In Jakarta, the first leg of a new mission to Asia that will bring him to Burma\/Myanmar on 25 and 26 April and to Brunei on the 27th, Minister for Foreign Affairs Giulio Terzi said referred to Indonesia as a country \u201cwith everything in place to emerge as a global economic leader over the coming years. Italy still has room to grow in its economic relations with Indonesia. There are surely more ambitious investment possibilities\u201d. At the end of his meeting in Jakarta with his colleague Marty Natalegawa, Terzi said that he had \u201cfound appreciation for the Italian government\u2019s efforts\u201d to confront the crisis. \u201cAs a G20 country, Indonesia looks to the fundamental role that Italy is having in the stabilisation of the euro, as well as in advancing an economic compact that gives the entire international community a sense of continuity and certainty about the euro\u201d, Terzi explained.<\/P> Conference on Religious Freedom<\/STRONG><\/STRONG><\/P> The defence of religious freedom, inter-faith dialogue and defence of religious minorities are \u201cforeign policy priorities for Italy at all levels. We are ready to work side by side with Indonesia to encourage religious co-existence in the region\u201d, Terzi said, also mentioning the bloody Christmas attacks in Nigeria. \u201cReligious intolerance exacerbates conflict and violence. It is in the interests of our collective security and stability to guarantee freedom of worship in every part of the world, keeping in mind the three pillars of the United Nations: peace, development and human rights\u201d, he added. <\/P> Marines: we intend to convey Italy\u2019s position to India, says Jakarta<\/STRONG><\/STRONG><\/P> “Indonesia remains committed to combating piracy in all multilateral forums. And I am confident that Indonesia\u2019s word will be very important in multilateral forums, not least regarding the aspects most closely of concern to us\u201d: the marines detained in India. This was Minister Terzi comment at the end of a meeting with his Indonesian colleague Natalegawa. Also in Jakarta, Terzi raised the issue of \u201cthe sovereignty of the national flag on commercial ships sailing in international waters”.
