The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, gave an interview to the pan-Arab newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat in which he emphasised Saudi Arabia\u2019s strategic role for Italy, describing the partnership with Riyadh as \u2018one of the pillars of Italy\u2019s engagement in the region\u2019. Tajani highlighted the growing convergence between the two countries on dialogue, regional stability, security and sustainable growth.<\/p>\n
With regard to Gaza, Tajani reiterated Italy\u2019s commitment to a political solution to the crisis and to reviving the prospect of a Two-State Solution, referring to the meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution recently hosted in Rome and to close cooperation with Saudi Arabia. The Minister emphasised that the Two-State Solution remains the only credible option for guaranteeing Israel\u2019s security and the creation of a free, democratic and peaceful Palestinian State. Tajani also highlighted Italy\u2019s humanitarian and institutional commitment, including the \u2018Food for Gaza\u2019 initiative and the additional allocation of EUR 10 million to the Palestinian National Authority via the United Nations.<\/p>\n
On the situation in Lebanon, Tajani reiterated Italy\u2019s strong support for the country\u2019s sovereignty and its legitimate institutions, starting with President Joseph Aoun, emphasising the importance of the gradual restoration of state authority across the whole of the country and the disarmament of Hezbollah. The Minister highlighted Italy\u2019s role as a partner and facilitator of regional dialogue, as demonstrated by the choice of Rome as the venue for the latest round of talks between Israel and Lebanon, mediated by the United States.
