UNESCO and the Jordan Government have signed a plan for the protection of Petra from earthquakes, floods and landslides. The plan is funded through Italian Cooperation\u2019s multilateral channel. <\/P>

The document was signed by Hmeidi Nayef Al-Fayez, Jordan\u2019s Minister for Tourism and Antiquities, and Anna Paolini, Director of the UNESCO office in Amman. Also present were the Italian Ambassador and representatives of the Jordanian institutions. <\/P>

The project will be implemented through Amman\u2019s UNESCO office, in collaboration with the Department for Antiquities, the Environmental Protection and Research Institute (Istituto per la Protezione e la Ricerca Ambientale \u2013 ISPRA), geologists with specialist expertise in the sector, the Zamani Research Group (University of Cape Town), and Jordanian experts in the heritage documentation field.
