Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani will be on a mission to South America, with stops in Buenos Aires on 8 September and in S\u00e3o Paulo on 9 and 10 September, accompanied by a delegation of more than 100 Italian companies led by Confindustria President Emanuele Orsini, alongside major Italian firms operating in both countries. Minister of Education and Merit Giuseppe Valditara will also take part in the visit to Argentina. The ITA President Matteo Zoppas, the CEO of SACE, Michele Pignotti, and the CEO of SIMEST, Regina Corradini D\u2019Arienzo, will also participate. It is a government-led mission to boost trade and Italian exports to two priority markets in Latin America, capitalising on the opportunities provided by the EU-Mercosur Agreement.<\/p>\n
In Buenos Aires, Minister Tajani will meet President Javier Milei, the Chief of the Cabinet of Ministers, Diego Santilli, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Pablo Quirno. Talks will focus on developing the bilateral partnership, based on the Action Plan signed last year by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and President Milei. Minister Tajani will also meet the IILA Secretary-General, Giorgio Silli, who is in Argentina for the IILA\u2019s annual PYMES Forum, which is taking place in parallel with the trade mission and involves the participation of many Latin American SMEs.<\/p>\n
Growth diplomacy will be at the heart of the visit to Argentina. Minister Tajani will open, alongside Minister Quirno, a meeting with major Italian and Argentine companies and, later, together with Minister Quirno, Minister Valditara and the leadership of Confindustria, a business forum to support the presence of Italian companies and foster new commercial and investment opportunities. Over 300 Italian-owned companies are already operating in Argentina, with significant prospects in the energy, agri-food, pharmaceutical, mechanical engineering, new technologies and defence sectors.<\/p>\n
On 9 and 10 September, Minister Tajani will be in S\u00e3o Paulo for his third visit to Brazil since the start of his term of office, where he will meet the Minister for Development, Industry, Trade and Services, Marcio Rosa. He will also open an economic forum with companies in Brazil. The country is Italy\u2019s leading trading partner in South America: in 2025, trade exceeded 11 billion euros, and there are around 1,100 companies with Italian ownership operating in the Brazilian market.<\/p>\n
The mission is part of Italy\u2019s strategy to strengthen its economic presence in the Mercosur region. In 2025, trade with the bloc\u2019s countries reached a record value of 14.7 billion euros, up 51 per cent on 2019, with a further 8.7% increase in the first half of 2026. Brazil and Argentina together account for over 92 per cent of Italian exports to the region.<\/p>\n
