In the centenary year of the first performance of Turandot, which took place at Teatro alla Scala on 25 April 1926, an evening dedicated to \u2018Turandot of the Stars\u2019 \u2013 an immersive performance combining video mapping and live music, conceived and directed by Davide Giannoni and Francesca Pasquinucci (Imaginarium Creative Studio) \u2013 was held at the Auditorium of the Italian Cultural Institute in Tokyo.<\/p>\n
The show blends Giacomo Puccini\u2019s unfinished masterpiece with original music performed live, hand-drawn illustrations and projections that transform the space into a cosmos in motion. At the heart of the narrative lies the imaginary journey of a young Puccini across the world, in search of the perfect sounds for his opera: a journey that provides an opportunity for Italian musical tradition to encounter the cultures of the various places he passes through.<\/p>\n
The Japanese leg of the tour saw a collaboration between Giannoni, Pasquinucci and the arts production company Komainu Kikaku, which accompanied the performance with the traditional Japanese instruments koto and shakuhachi, played by Hosokawa Takahiro and Yashiro Saori respectively.<\/p>\n
