The Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs, Massimo Dell\u2019Utri, led the Italian delegation to the 70th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), taking place in Vienna from 14 to 18 September. Speaking during the general debate, the Undersecretary reaffirmed Italy\u2019s support for the IAEA\u2019s role in the international security and non-proliferation framework and in promoting the peaceful uses of nuclear energy. Undersecretary Dell\u2019Utri stated: \u201cItaly firmly believes in the IAEA\u2019s role in safeguarding peace, promoting sustainable development and strengthening the global non-proliferation regime.\u201d He also highlighted the peaceful applications of nuclear energy, starting with medicine, and the contribution of research and innovation to energy security and decarbonisation.<\/p>\n
During the visit, the Under-Secretary – together with the IAEA Director General, Rafael Mariano Grossi, and Italy\u2019s Permanent Representative, Ambassador Debora Lepre – inaugurated the Italian national exhibition area at the General Conference. The area showcases Italian expertise and innovations, with a particular focus on the healthcare sector, the protection of cultural heritage, applications in the space sector, and scientific research and training.<\/p>\n
