Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani had a telephone conversation today with the Yemeni Minister of Foreign Affairs Al-Zouba. During the conversation, Tajani expressed Italy\u2019s concern at the ongoing escalation in the country, reiterating its firm condemnation of the recent attacks by Houthi militias against the civilian population, the Yemeni regular forces and Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n
The Minister of Foreign Affairs then expressed Italy\u2019s full support for the internationally recognised government of Yemen, as well as Italy\u2019s commitment to facilitating the resumption of the peace process and to providing humanitarian assistance to the local population, which has been ravaged by years of conflict.<\/p>\n
Particular attention was paid to the need to ensure full freedom of navigation in the Red Sea, a crucial hub for trade flows and global supply chains. Tajani highlighted Italy\u2019s leading role in the EU\u2019s Aspides naval military operation and the Italian Government\u2019s commitment to safeguarding food security in vulnerable countries through the \u2018Rome Coalition\u2019, launched on 7 May with the participation of over 40 countries and the FAO.<\/p>\n
